Our Community

One heart, one soul, united in Christ's love

Life Together in Christ

At the heart of our congregation is community - sisters from diverse backgrounds united by a common call to follow Christ in the spirit of the Sacred Heart.

Community life is not simply living under the same roof; it is a profound sharing of life, prayer, mission, and love. We support one another in our spiritual growth, celebrate together in joy, and comfort each other in sorrow. This mutual care creates a family bonded not by blood, but by the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Our communities range from large motherhouses to small mission communities, but each one strives to be a living witness to the unity Christ desires for all His followers. We gather for prayer multiple times each day, share meals, recreation, and the daily work of our apostolates.

"In community, we learn to love not in theory, but in practice - with all the patience, forgiveness, and sacrifice that true love requires."

— Sr. Maria Teresa, Former Superior General

Elements of Community Life

The rhythm of our days is shaped by these essential elements

01

Common Prayer

We gather throughout the day for the Liturgy of the Hours, Eucharist, and community prayer. These sacred moments anchor our lives in God and unite our hearts.

02

Shared Meals

Gathering around the table strengthens our bonds. We share not only food but stories, laughter, and the events of our days in an atmosphere of family warmth.

03

Recreation Together

Time for relaxation, conversation, and enjoyment builds friendships and refreshes our spirits for the demands of our apostolates.

04

Mutual Support

In sickness and health, in joy and struggle, we stand by one another. This support extends from practical help to spiritual encouragement.

The Journey to Profession

Those discerning a call to our congregation journey through these stages of formation

Inquiry & Come and See

Initial contact, visits, and retreats to experience our community and discern whether God is calling you to this life. This period allows for mutual discernment.

Duration varies

Postulancy

Living with the community while continuing to discern. Postulants experience daily community life, begin formal study of our charism, and deepen their prayer life.

1-2 years

Novitiate

A period of intense formation, including study of Scripture, theology, Church documents, and our constitutions. Novices receive the habit and deepen their understanding of religious life.

2 years

Temporary Vows

First profession of vows, renewed annually. Sisters engage more fully in apostolic work while continuing formation in the spiritual life and our charism.

5-9 years

Perpetual Profession

Final profession of vows - a lifelong commitment to Christ in our congregation. Sisters are fully incorporated members, sharing in all aspects of community life and governance.
